Foreword
The Journal of Vocational Education Research (now
Career and Technical Education Research) was proposed by
a five-member task force appointed by the Executive
Committee of AVERA (now ACTER) under the leadership of Mary
Kievit. The Journal became a reality with the
approval and financial support of the editorial board in
December of 1975 at the annual AVERA-AVA Convention. By
1977, several issues
of the Journal had been prepared and/or published
under the leadership of
George Copa, editor; associate editor, and later editor,
Curtis Finch; and Joel Magisos, managing editor.
Initially, a set of working
guidelines which described in general terms the operation of
the editorial board, procedures for submitting and selecting
manuscripts, and financing of the Journal were
followed in publishing the Journal. The purpose of
this FOREWORD
is to review briefly the history and creation of the Journal
and to introduce a more complete set of guidelines for the
Journal’s operation. It is anticipated that the
proposed guidelines will represent a point of reference and
will be revised by the members of the editorial board and
editorial staff as they gain additional expedience in
publishing the Journal.
