  The Association for Career and Technical Education Research (ACTER) (formerly AVERA) was organized in 1966. It is a professional association for scholars and others with research interests in the relationship between education and work.

Through participation in the ACTER members have the opportunity to:

  • Stay current in research areas of interest which is of vital importance to professional roles.
  • Present research to national audiences through various forums.
  • Meet and interact with others who address professional interests and concerns through research.
  • Assume national roles by serving as an officer and on committees that influence career and technical education research.
  • Receive recognition for outstanding research accomplishments, contributions, and achievements.

The purposes of ACTER are:

  • To stimulate research and development activities related to career and technical education.
  • To stimulate the development of train programs designed to prepare persons for responsibilities in research in career and technical education.
  • To foster cooperative effort in research and development activities within the total program of career and technical education.
  • To facilitate the dissemination of research findings and the diffusion of knowledge.
  Welcome to the Association for Career and Technical Education! ACTER is the premiere professional organization for researchers, faculty, graduate students, administrators, policy-makers, and all others with global interests in workforce education research, education, issues and policy.

The 2007 officers are committed to providing
on-going opportunities for presenting quality research and scholarship! Research can be published and presented in the Career and Technical Education Research (CTER) journal, and at the Annual AERA CTE SIG and Annual Research and Development conferences. In addition, new opportunities for providing symposia and posters featuring your scholarship are available at the Annual Conference which will be held
December 11-13, 2007 in Las Vegas, Nevada in conjunction with the Annual ACTE Convention. In preparation for that exciting event, please take a look at the 2007 Conference Announcement and

If you are not familiar with the recent excitement and activities of ACTER, I invite you to take a look at some of the activities of 2006 including the program for the Annual Conference and the CTER journal.
